SEP in TANZANIA


"Stude Exchange Programme (SEP) is among of Project conducted by IPSF where students can explore different experiences about Pharmacy professional in different dimensions. It's the great opportunity for Pharmacy students to create network and Adventuring all around the world. Since 2015, TAPSA were officially participating in SEP. Pharmacy students from different countries do their SEP in Tanzania. Amazing fact is that, no one student will regret to do SEP in Tanzania. In 2017/2018 mandate we have a dedicated plan to receive more incoming students from different countries to experience SEP to Tanzania, not only that but also to send students from Tanzania to do SEP in their countries of Interest." Area Possibilities


We have the following settings which can be visited; 
  • Industries 
  • Production of medicines of different dosage forms.Hospitals (Private and Government) - Patient caring and clinical pharmacy practicing
  • Community Pharmacy - Dispensing and Patient caring
  • Research and Development Laboratory (TFDA) 
  • Analysis of medicinal products, Quality assurance of pharmaceutical products.
  • Pharmaceutical Storage warehouse
  • Storage of pharmaceutical products and medical devices and store management. - Universities offering Pharmacy programme 
  • Experiencing how Pharmacy programme is undertaken in Tanzania. 

Length of training periods


Our SEP program runs for 6 weeks anytime between June - August of a particular year in all the above stated settings.


Available months and cities


The preferred city for all these fields is Dar es Salaam.


Type accommodation


Exchange student can choose to stay at a student Hostels. Hotels or Apartments or family residence. Hotels costs from USD300 to USD350, Students Hostels costs USD100 per month. Accommodation costs will be paid by the exchange student. More information about Accommodation student should communicate with SEO before arrival.



Board, Pocket money or other financial benefits/remuneration


Spending money is not provided by TAPSA.

Students who wish to participate SEP are needed to pay for accommodation, food, trips, transportation, etc themselves.Meal expenses for is approximately 10USD per day. Transport expenses - To and from placement sites by Public Transport costs 2USD, Private transport (Uber) costs 8USD to and fro from placement sites. - City tour [around different places of Dar es salaam city] = 60USD per tour. - Tour to National parks like Mikumi, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Katavi, Ruaha costs 85USD per tour. - Tour to National Museum in Bagamoyo 30USD per tour. - Tour to Zanzibar Islands 300USD for 3 days including accommodation. - Tour to Kilimanjaro Mountain and Meru Mountains 250USD for 3 days. - Social and Sport expenses ranges from USD13 to USD20 (like cinemas, entertainment entrance, Hiking, Clubing, swimming, gym fee and other social events). NOTE: Entrance fee varies in different attraction sites, Exchange students are required to contact the SEO for more detailed information.


Social events

Welcoming Party for welcoming incoming students few days after arrival. Pharmacy students, Medical Doctors, Employed Pharmacists and Intern Pharmacists are also invited.Coastal Beach Night This is a special night where incoming students will experience Tanzania Indian coastal environments, meet with Maasai in coastal cities.
Weekend City Walk Tour The tour will be taking students around Dar es Salaam city and an orientation of common places in the City. There is always students from other countries who are hosted by Tanzania Medical Association within the same months of our exchange programme. Any additional costs will be communicated.

Language requirements

Exchange student must be able to speak english and will be required to learn some few simple common Swahili words like greetings.

Other requirements

Student must be required to complete at least 1year of studies during the time of application.

Information on Work Permits and Visa

TAPSA will provide an Invitation Letter to the incoming student to assist in obtaining VISA. Students from East Africa under EAC can get their temporary Visa at the port of entry. Other Countries are required to contact Tanzania consulate offices to get their Visa into Tanzania.TAPSA does not make Visa applications for students.

Selection Procedures

Deadline: April 15 2018. Selection will be done by SEO with consultation with the TAPSA Excom.

Additional documents

An Introductory Official letter from your University with stamps from the Dean of School or Principal or any higher staff member of your University. Passport size photos,Vaccination Certificate against Yellow fever.
